Spoiler: we made it 😁. The 16kms was, as is the way, 21kms. But we took our time and all was OK. I did the last 5kms in my creepers and slides because I HAD to release my toes. Guy is motivated by hills (must be a growing up on a farm thing); me not so much, but he is kind and waits. Arriving and getting the Compostela was a weird collection of emotions. But mostly good, bar the super officious security people managing the queue…but the volunteers inside were lovely. They are printed in Latin, so my name is now ‘Gwendolinam’. Lol.
Amazing tapas after a rest and a shower and we now await the pilgrims’ mass.
And also, I found out this week that, post-consultation, my role is now NOT being disestablished, so that’s something. Submissions count. Bit of a shift in thinking after 9 weeks expecting unemployment… Grateful to my lovely manager understanding my wish to take some leave as things settled down. And colleagues, friends and family doing things I would usually do at home and work. Muchas gracias.
This blog will take a break now until I start my section of the Podiensis way, between Le Puy de Velay and St Jean Pied de Port, in late June before my return home. Hasta la vista for now. Thanks for following along!
