Sharing the beauty of nature and much deliciousness along the Portugese Way (Senda Litoral) and through the middle of the Podiensis / GR65 / Chemin de St Jâcques

Figeac to Béduer and on to Cajarc and Gaillac

Yayyyy wifi in my accommodation for the first time in a few days. Lovely chambres d’hôtes in Gaillac, a few kms past Cajarc “Rooms of the mischievous cats”; how could I not stay there? Another big day yesterday (admittedly a took at least one slight turn off piste and may have added a km or three… ) through beautiful Causse landscape with so many great rock formations including the UNESCO-protected Dolmens de Pech Laglayre, 3000-ish years old; I. Can’t. Even.

I’m getting better at the long descents now for the sake of my knees and just go very slooowwwllly. This route is so quiet cf the Portuguêse, it’s not like I have anyone to set me a pace now that Guy is back in NZ!

In Béduer, as I was leaving yesterday morning, I went past a family with a donkey – mother, teenage son and young daughter. I sent a video to the children, Bella asked me why they had a donkey and I assumed they were just walking to school…but no! I caught up with them by the amazing Dolman just outside Gréalou, and in fact they every year rent a donkey and walk five days of the Chemin de St Jacques. The daughter is seven! She gets to ride the donkey though. Quite wonderful.

From Figeac to Béduer

Fancy dinner tonight!
Kiwi rugby on TV. Under 21s world cup or some such?

Béduer to Gaillac

The Lot is, I think, my favourite river in all the land.
